Ingredients
  

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 10-15 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  • Add sugar and balsamic vinegar, stir, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Let cool.
  • In a bowl, combine ground sausage, thyme, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cooled onions. Mix well.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cut each puff pastry sheet in half lengthwise. Divide sausage mixture evenly along the center of each strip.
  • Roll the pastry over the filling and seal the edges. Place seam side down and cut each roll into 3-4 pieces.
  • Place rolls on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

You can prepare the rolls ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake. Serve with mustard or aioli for dipping. Use store-bought caramelized onion jam to save time.
