Base Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 carrot carrot, chopped
  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup Italian leaf parsley, chopped
  • 8 leaves fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt and fresh ground pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh grated Pecorino or Parmesan

Instructions
 

Cooking Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil until almost smoking. Add the onion and garlic and turn heat down to medium and cook until the onions become very soft, about 8 minutes.
  • Add the celery and carrot and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Raise heat to high and add the ground beef and cook until it is no longer pink, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the tomatoes, parsley and basil and cook over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens - about 30 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve over pasta of your choice with more black pepper and grated cheese.

Notes

This sauce is perfect for topping your favorite pasta.
